Welcome to SAS/CVA, a department committed to serving members of the Rutgers community who
are victims of interpersonal violence and all types of crime. We offer
a range of services to community members affected directly by crime
and to those close to them, as well as an array of education and training
programs, consultation and policy development services, projects, and
special events. We invite you to contact the department to learn more
about what we offer, and challenge all at Rutgers to create a community
free from violence.
History of SAS/CVA
The Office of Sexual Assault Services was created in 1991 by recommendation of the University
Acquaintance Rape Task Force. Under the leadership of Ruth Anne Koenick,
the office became a University Department in 1995, and has grown to
serve Rutgers community members who are victims of all types of crime.
Today, SAS/CVA is committed to offering innovative services, programs,
and events designed to meet the needs of the members of the Rutgers
Community and beyond.
Mission
SAS/CVA is committed to creating a community free from violence. We provide services designed to raise
awareness of and respond to the impact of interpersonal violence and
other crimes. Through a combination of direct service, education, training,
policy development, and consulting to the University and broader community,
we serve as a critical voice in changing prevailing beliefs and attitudes
about violence.
