of sexual violence, you may be experiencing some or all of the following:
Common emotional
responses include:
- A feeling of loss
of control
- Fear
- Anger
- Shame
- Guilt (If you are
gay, bisexual, or transgender you may feel a greater degree of guilt
and blame as a result of your sexual orientation)
- Loneliness/isolation
- Heightened sense
of vulnerability
- Anxiety
- Amnesia/Denial
- Depression
- Confusion about
sexual identity
- Fear of sexual
intimacy
- Flashbacks of the
attack and/or nightmares
- Fantasies of retaliation
- Difficulty establishing
trust
- Nervous or compulsive
behavior
Common physical
responses include:
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea and stomachaches
- Headaches
- Insomnia or extreme
fatigue
- Change in sexual
activity/desire
If you have been
the victim of sexual violence, remember that it is NOT YOUR FAULT.
