What educational and awareness programs are mandated by the University?

Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance has responsibility for designing and implementing mandated programs and for the quality assurance of programming efforts from other sources. This effort assures consistency in message, training, treatment/intervention and compliance with institutional, federal and state regulations. Beginning July 1, 2006, the Newark campus will be responsible for all programming, counseling, and training for members of that campus community.

All first year students, Greek pledges and members of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletic teams are to receive/participate in programming on sexual violence with the latter group attending annually. Depending on the group, size, time of year and other variables, these particular programming efforts may address:

  • Sexual violence, dating violence, stalking and harassment;
  • Factors contributing to interpersonal violence such as cultural support and rape myths;
  • Taking action to create communities that do not tolerate violence; and
  • Available resources.

Programming for these groups will be arranged in collaboration with appropriate departments, including the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs.
