The Department of
Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance (SAS/CVA) offers
diverse programs, projects, and events to educate our community about
interpersonal violence and to meet the needs of Rutgers students, faculty,
and staff. Additionally, new programs and projects are continuously in
development. We welcome your ideas for different ways to reach community
members and to work together to create a community free from violence.
Educational
programming is available to all members of the campus community. In
addition to SCREAM Theater programs, our department provides
educational/discussion programs on sexual assault, dating violence,
stalking, and crime victim assistance. These programs are designed to meet
the needs of specific audiences. Programs use an interactive format to
encourage dialogue, questions, and critical thinking about interpersonal
violence, as well as to offer ways to challenge thoughts and behaviors
that contribute to this violence. Contact the department to discuss your
needs and schedule a program for your campus group.
Special
Projects are currently underway at SAS/CVA, and a partial listing
is provided below. Contact the department to bring a project to your
campus group. Click here to

Victim Assistance.
Healing the
Wounded Heart: Arte Sana's Art Heals Project provides a space for
survivors of interpersonal violence to express themselves and educate
others about this violence. Survivors create art using wooden hearts and
art materials provided by SAS/CVA, and the hearts then become part of a
traveling exhibit. Arte Sana is a Texas-based organization dedicated to
education and advocacy regarding intimate partner violence for
Spanish-speaking communities in the US and abroad. One element of the
organization's work is using the arts to assist survivors of intimate
violence. We thank Arte Sana for their pioneering work and for sharing
that work, which enables us to bring this project to Rutgers. Contact
SAS/CVA to bring an Arte Sana workshop to your campus group.
The Clothesline
Project: The Clothesline Project provides space for survivors of
interpersonal violence and those that care about them to express
themselves and create a visual reminder of and message about this
violence. Survivors and those close to them use tee shirts and art
supplies provided by SAS/CVA to create shirts that are then exhibited on
clotheslines. Contact SAS/CVA to bring a Clothesline Project workshop to
your campus group.
Special
Events are sponsored by SAS/CVA throughout the year. Upcoming
events are listed below and the listing is updated regularly to reflect
additions.
Silent Witness
Event: The Silent Witness Event is held annually to commemorate
the lives of those who have died as a result of domestic violence.
Life-sized figures with the names of victims murdered by their partners or
former partners form the backdrop for event activities, which include
speakers, resource tables, and other activities such as SCREAM Theater
performances.
