Research and evaluation are an integral part
of the work accomplished at SAS/CVA. The department utilizes both informal
and formal methods for gathering information about the services we provide
and the constituencies we serve. This information is ultimately used to improve
our services and strengthen our mission of creating communities free
of violence. Below is a sampling of research studies conducted by the
department. For more information, please contact Sarah McMahon at smcmahon@rci.rutgers.edu.
"SCREAM Athletes: Assessing the impact of participation in a peer education interpersonal violence prevention program" (PDF) is our qualititative study conducted in 2003-2004 with 14 members of our student-athlete peer education program.
“Student-athletes,
rape-supportive culture and social change” (PDF) reports
the findings from a comprehensive study conducted with student-athletes in 2001-2002
to find out more about their culture on campus and the ways in which it may or
may not be rape-supportive. The study also explored opportunities for student-athletes
to assume leadership positions in creating social change on issues of sexual
violence. A brief synopsis
of the study (PDF) is also available that includes information
on our educational video for student-athletes.
“Evaluation of SCREAM Athletes” (PDF) was conducted in 2001
through a quantitative assessment and evaluated our peer education
theater program for student-athletes. Sophomore and junior athletes completed
a pre-test/post-test and the results are available.
“Evaluation of SCREAM Theater” (PDF) reports the results
of our assessment of SCREAM Theater that was conducted with first
year students in 1998 and included a pre-test and post-test of attitudes
about sexual violence.
“Assessing
the impact of participation in a peer education program” (PDF)
summarizes the findings from a qualitative study based on interviews
with the peer educators belonging to SCREAM Theater.
