Against Myths |
Learning to SCREAM
is our theater workshop that teaches peer educators how to institute
a theater program at your school or organization. By demonstrating basic
scenarios and allowing your educators to participate in the
improvisational theater process, we will aid you in developing a peer
educational theater presentation to use for your own educational purposes.
The "Learning to
SCREAM" format begins with the presentation of a typical SCREAM scenario.
After the processing takes place, the audience gets a chance to
participate in the theater process. Short improvisational exercises
demonstrate how we begin creating scenes and are also used to make the
group comfortable in front of a large audience. The "Learning to SCREAM"
program facilitates the educational process. We will tailor our program to
meet the needs of your peer educators.
In addition to our Learning to SCREAM workshop, we have recently created
a manual entitled Learning to SCREAM: A Guide for Developing Peer Educational
Theater Programs. This 45 page manual provides a step-by-step description
of how to create and maintain a peer-interactive theater program. Included
in this manual is background information on campus sexual violence,
peer education and using theater for education, the process used by
SCREAM Theater including creating a skit, training sessions for students,
running rehearsals, and considering theater tips, and information on
creating an ongoing program including training on the issues and theater,
developing a group identity, and creating a student staff. The cost
for the manual is $50 and can be purchased by contacting Sharon Zucker, Coordinator of Peer Education, at 732-932-1181 or srzucker@rci.rutgers.edu.
